⚠️ Contraindications for Conscious Connected Breathing

Breathwork can create powerful physical and emotional release. For your safety, the following conditions are contraindicated in certain breathwork practices:

  • Pregnancy

  • Detached retina

  • Glaucoma

  • High blood pressure (not controlled with medication)

  • Cardiovascular disease, including angina, previous heart attack or stroke

  • Diagnosis of an aneurysm (brain or abdomen)

  • Uncontrolled thyroid conditions and diabetes

  • Asthma – if you are asthmatic, please bring your inhaler to the session

  • Epilepsy

  • Prior diagnosis of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or other psychiatric condition

  • Hospitalisation for any psychiatric condition or emotional crisis within the last 10 years

  • Any other medical, psychiatric, or physical condition that may affect your ability to safely engage in practices involving intense physical or emotional release

Before You Begin Breathwork

1. Not a substitute for medical care: 

Breathwork is a therapeutic tool but is not a replacement for professional medical or psychological advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Please consult a qualified healthcare professional if you have any medical or mental health concerns.

2. Strong physical and emotional responses: 

Conscious connected breathing and related techniques can sometimes bring up strong physical sensations or emotional releases. Honour your own boundaries and practise self-care throughout the session.

3. Medical conditions: 

Altering breathing patterns can affect your physiology. If you have pre-existing medical conditions, especially respiratory or cardiovascular issues, please consult your healthcare provider before engaging.

4. Emotional and trauma release: 

Sessions may surface deeply rooted emotions or past experiences. While this can be healing, it is important to have supportive resources such as a therapist, counsellor, or trusted friend to help integrate what arises.

5. Individual experiences vary: 

Each person’s journey is unique. Some may feel profound shifts, others more subtle changes. Approach breathwork with openness and without rigid expectations.

6. Trained facilitation: 

Always practise breathwork with a trained and experienced facilitator who can create a safe, supportive environment and guide you throughout the process.
